Our Story
Kaitiaki Café was started in 1993 by Hone and Mereana Ngatai, on the lakeside of Rotorua, at 5 Mataiawhea Street. The café has been a cherished hotspot for locals and tourists alike, offering a welcoming environment and a taste of home-cooked kai, with a stunning view of the lake.
Hone and Mereana honed their skills in some of London’s finest restaurants, combining traditional Māori food with local recipes to create a fusion of local flavors and modern cuisine.
